BREAKING NEWS:DP Rigathi Gachagua impeached
Kenyan members of parliament have voted to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for alleged corruption and undermining the government, among others issues.
Kibwezi MP Mutuse Mwengi tabled the impeachment motion on October 1, with 291 MPs signing up to the motion, well beyond the 117 minimum required.
The DP was invited to the National Assembly today to defend himself against 11 charges levelled against him.
The accusations include fomenting ethnic animosity, committing economic crimes, undermining the President, publicly attacking a judge, threatening the acting Kemsa CEO, acting in insubordination of the President, and alleged acquisition of wealth amounting to Sh5.2 billion.
During the voting 281 MPs voted in favour of the motion while 44 MPs voted against it and 1 abstained.
Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula pronounced that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Stands impeached after the voting results met the threshold required to impeach the Deputy President.
